SOP Jigsaw

Workplace Safety has conducted a comprehensive job safety analysis for operating a jigsaw, e.g. cutting timber materials and how to change a jigsaw blade with risk control measures developed for identified hazards per WHS hierarchy of controls.

  • WHS consultation with employees on health and safety matters to identify potential hazards with operating a jigsaw and ensure electrical hand tool safety

  • WHS consultation and participation processes ensure adequate health and safety communication

  • Pre-operational inspection of jigsaw per electrical tools inspection checklist, e.g. how to check tools and equipment are free from damage such as damaged electrical cords

  • Damaged tools and equipment shall have an out of service tag placed on it with procedures for reporting faulty equipment in the workplace implemented

  • Do not alter or modify a jigsaw, e.g. removal of jigsaw handle will affect tool safety

  • Inspect jigsaw blade for signs of wear and damage per tool safety checklist, replace if necessary and dispose of damaged jigsaw blade appropriately

  • Jigsaw operation per jigsaw SOP focuses on jigsaw control measures to reduce the level of risk

  • Workplace environmental hazards, e.g. confined space and working at heights

  • Hazardous chemicals and hazardous products used in connection with operating a jigsaw

  • Hazardous manual tasks in connection with the operation of a jigsaw

  • Personal protective equipment, e.g. respiratory protective equipment, protective clothing, eye protection
